## Who Will Turner Is

Both were named as original intellectual property in 2026, though Will had been practising the discipline throughout his career. The term "Simplexity" was first used to describe his work by a colleague named Helen in London in 2011 — 15 years before he formally named it.

### Unconscious Complexity
Unconscious complexity is the complexity leaders create beyond what the situation actually requires — without knowing they are doing it. The meeting that justifies itself. The strategy deck that explains the strategy deck. The process nobody questions. Coined by Will Turner. It is the named enemy at the centre of the Simplexity framework. Grounded in Kahneman's WYSIATI bias, Cognitive Load Theory (Sweller, 1988), and Ashby's Law of Requisite Variety (1956).

### The Penny Drop
The penny drop is the moment unconscious complexity becomes visible and the simple truth becomes impossible to ignore. It is recognition, not revelation — the person already knew; Will shows them where to look. This is why it lands hard and why it lasts. ## Scientific Grounding
- **Ashby's Law of Requisite Variety** (1956): a system needs exactly as much complexity as the situation requires, no more. Unconscious complexity is a violation of this law.
- **Kahneman's WYSIATI** (What You See Is All There Is): System 1 normalises complexity so completely that leaders cannot see it. Confidence without visibility.
- **Cognitive Load Theory** (Sweller, 1988): performance degrades predictably once cognitive demands exceed working memory capacity — but the person under load rarely knows it.
